Learn How to Preserve Your Family Memories At Free Middlesex County Museum Workshop
September 30, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Have you ever wanted to interview someone in your family to learn about and preserve your family’s history but weren’t sure exactly how to go about it? Now you can learn how to collect oral histories from your family, friends or even co-workers in a free workshop being offered by the Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society on Saturday, September 30 in the historic county courthouse in Saluda.
Dr. Betsy Brinson will train workshop participants on best practices for collecting oral histories. Dr. Brinson received her doctoral degree in American history from Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio and has been collecting oral histories as part of her research for over 40 years, interviewing people involved in civil rights, civil liberties, and advocacy for women rights, AIDS, and peace. Most recently she traveled to Palestine to interview graduates of the Ramallah Friends School.
She has conducted hundreds of community workshops and seminars on best interviewing practices.
In the Saluda workshop, educational handouts will be available, and those attending will have an opportunity to practice interviewing and be interviewed themselves.
The program, which runs from 10 a.m. until noon, is open to all who are interested, and pre-registration is not required. If you plan to attend, bring whatever equipment you would use to record your interviews to the workshop.
