The Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society sponsored a zoom presentation on Sunday afternoon, April 24 at 4PM by Professor Julia Ann King.  Professor King discussed “Mapping the Rappahannock Indigenous Cultural Landscape.”  Her surveys of indigenous people in Rappahannock, Essex, King George, Westmoreland, Richmond and King and Queen county will be expanding into Middlesex and Lancaster.  In King and Queen County, she has been investigating the Chief’s House and the Sam Nelson house.   

Professor King is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A.), Florida State University (M.A. in Anthropology) and the University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D. in Historical Archaeology) and is the chair of the Department of Anthropology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.  She is a former president of the Society for Historical Archaeology, and she was the recipient of two awards in 2018:  the Out-of-State Award from the Archaeological Society of Virginia, and the J.C. Harrington Award for Lifetime Contributions from the Society for Historical Archaeology.
