Did you know that the upcoming 15th Annual Holly Point Art & Seafood Festival will have so much more than just delicious eats and beautiful art? We’re delighted to announce that the event this year – held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Nature Park – will also feature some of the finest classic cars this region has to offer.
The classic cars themselves will start rolling into the festival at 10 a.m. thanks to the Memory Lane Car Club, based in Kilmarnock. Memory Lane Car Club formed with the express purpose to encourage the owners of antique, classic and even exotic motor vehicles to get together to operate, work on, exhibit and drive.
Spokesman Jack Ashburn said, “we do this for fun and to help organizations like the Maritime Park with their fundraising. The Museum is there for the community, we want to be there for them, both now and in the future.”
The club will bring more than 40 classic examples of “rollin’ steel.”
Not into cars? That’s ok, too! The festival all centers around the arbors of the Museum’s scenic “Waterfront Park” on Mill Creek. Starting at 10 a.m., Museum volunteers will offer steamed shrimp, clam chowder, shrimp salad, fish fillets, crab cakes, fries and hush puppies in the Pavilion kitchen and oysters next to the Tea House. Egg sandwiches, Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas will also be served in the Pavilion beginning at 8 a.m. BBQ and oysters will be served out of the new Tea House kitchen.
To complement the Museum’s Seafood operation, David’s Snak-Shak will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers and Marty’s Swineskins will bring all his flavors of crunchy creations along with funnel cakes.
Enjoy leisurely creek cruises with Cap’n Pete.
Deltaville’s own diesel mechanic Henry Lackey will bring the “clackeda-clackeda” of his burly antique diesel engines.
In the Turner Fountain Courtyard, Museum Education coordinator Karen Minter and her crew will offer a fun mix of children’s games and activities.
Local troubadour David Moran will play in the Pavilion’s North Wing from roughly 9 to 10:30 a.m. Favorite Ray Pittman will take the Pavilion stage with his very large horn band and rhythm section, the “Revival,” from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The traditional sounds of the “Cigar Box String Band” will also be live at the Park.
The Rappahannock Railroaders will operate the “DMM Line Elevated Railway” at the festival and the “Explorer Society” will showing off the Museum’s own Captain John Smith replica “Explorer.”
Renowned local historian Larry Chowning will be on the waterfront with his popular books on local history.
The Deltaville Maritime Museum is located at 287 Jackson Creek Road, and by water on Mill Creek.
